Chris Ofili Typography Project

Chris Ofili was born in Manchester, England on October 10th in 1968. In the 1990s, Ofili became known for his intricate and playful multi-layer paintings. Incorporating, several esthetic and cultural influences into his art. Ofili explores desire, identity, and representation in many of his paintings and other artwork.

During the start of his career in the mid-1990s his work was characterized by highly decorative, multi-layer compositions that irreverently use a wide variety of imagery, from religious symbols to figures from the 1970s Afropop comics. Ofili has used acrylic, beads, oil paint, glitter, elephant dung lumps, porn magazine cut-outs as painting components. His work often has been listed as 'punk art.'
The above images are my reference images for this project. Chris Ofili's, Afronirvana, 2002. This art piece really stood out to me and it is the main inspiration for my poster. His use of materials were oil, acrylic, polyester resin, aluminum foil, glitter, map pins, and elephant dung on canvas,108 x 144 in (274.3 x 365.7 cm).

Above: Final sketches - These are my first initial creations on illustrator.
For my final poster I kept it simple because the image, color and texture is 'busy.' I wanted that to be the focus. The layout of the text was something I struggled with the most and after messing around with it and getting feedback my decision was clear.
